Very soon we will all have to consider supplementing or replacing our existing fossil-fuel powered household systems.  Coupled with this, good insulation is essential, in order to cut heating bills and our carbon footprint.  Below are some carefully researched local grant and financial assistance programmes (with thanks to John Andrews).  We hope you find this information helpful:

Grants towards home insulation available from the Herefordshire Council

Warm Front grants for insulation   www.warmfront.co.uk

Up to £3,500 is available for gas, and up to £6,000 for oil and other offgas, heated houses.  The grants cover:

Loft insulation

Cavity wall insulation

Draughtproofing

Hot water tank insulation

Energy efficient light bulbs

Repairs to existing heating

Gas, electrical or oil central heating

Glass fronted fires

Improvements to heating system

 

Special Energy Efficiency Scheme (SEES)

Up to £500 is available towards energy efficiency schemes in homes.  It covers

Loft insulation

Cavity wall insulation

Draughtstripping

Hot water tank insulation

Improvements to controls on central heating

 

Renewables

Up to £500 is available towards the installation of energy efficient technology, for instance:

Solar thermal energy collectors

Solar electric energy collectors

Biomass boilers

Woodburners

Wind turbines

Ground source heat pumps

Air source heat pumps

Home energy grants of £300 are available to the over 60s who are private home owners or tenants and not on income support or disability benefit towards the cost of installing a new central heating system or boiler.
