Allotments in Pembridge?

Great news!  We had a very positive response to our allotment campaign with well over our aim of 15 expressions of interest.  Nick Read wrote to the Pembridge Parish Council with this information, and at their meeting in July the council agreed to look into the acquisition of land, hoping to have the help of the Arrowvale Environment Group in this.  They do require individual letters from interested parishioners (and the more support the better) so if you would like to be put on the list for an allotment please write to:

Mrs Heather Harding

Clerk, Pembridge Parish Council

153 Bargates

Leominster

Herefordshire  HR6 8QT.

By the same token, if you know of any land that may be available to buy or rent by the Council for this purpose, please let us know: contact Roland and Liz Scott, Noke Lane House, Pembridge, HR6 9HP,           tel 01544 388463; email Nick Read (agchap@btinternet.com); or follow the link to contact us.

Allotments are great fun and practical for all age groups.  At present there are around 250,000 plot holders in Britain and fewer than half of these are retired.

During the Second World War, the “Dig for Victory” campaign resulted in 1,400,000 plots producing around 1,300,000 tons of produce annually.(Harris & Borer, 2007)

For individuals and families alike, an allotment is a great opportunity to get out in the fresh air, grow your own healthy food, keep fit (yes..a little bit of hard work is sometimes required) and become part of the local allotment community.
